About Rusticks

Rusticks Cornwall has been in existence for some years now and is very much a garden shed industry.

The sticks produced are hand crafted dependent on the mood of the carver and the dictates of available materials, all of which are either recycled or cut from renewable sources.

Shanks are collected, during walks, from roadsides and hedgerows and even from the gardens of friendly locals. They then spend up to a year seasoning on a rack in the shed.

Builders trucks and skips are surreptitiously inspected for discarded hardwood scraps and offcuts and there's not a joiner within a ten mile radius who has not been pestered for odds and ends. These bits and pieces are the basis for handles and stick tops which are hand carved to the various shapes used to embellish walking sticks, market sticks, staves and canes.

These same skips sometimes yield bits of copper water pipe which is pressed into service as tip ferrules and the long suffering family dog sometimes loses his treasured bones which re-appear as spacers between shank and head on crooks and the like.

There are, of course, some concessions in materials but these are limited to the adhesive in the jointing between head and shank and yacht varnish which provides a weatherproof layer to the finished stick.

Sticks of all types are sold at local fairs and events and commissions are taken for sticks featuring pets and special interests including Wiccan staffs and wands. Bespoke wading staffs are made to order. Please e-mail for enquiries and quotes.
